The Gajan of Shiva (also known as Shiv-er Gajan or simply Gajon) is one of the most intense and culturally significant folk festivals in Bardhaman, particularly in the rural parts of the district, held at the end of the Bengali month of Chaitra (mid-April). It is a week-long festival honoring Lord Shiva, performed by devotees called Sanyasis or Bhaktas to seek blessings for a good harvest and prosperity, or to fulfill personal vows.
